August 3rd,2011 | PROJECT B.A.R.K. (Bringing Animals Relief and Kindness) is a non-profit 501c(3) group that provides doghouses for dogs that don’t have them in Guilford County. Dogs who are chained without shelter have no way to get warm or dry in winter or escape the blazing sun in summer. And on a chain, there is nowhere for them to ‘go’ for relief. It doesn’t seem right for us to be comfortable and dry inside while they endure weeks of miserable weather without a simple shelter. Contact PROJECT B.A.R.K. through their website to volunteer. | |

July 26th,2011 Last Thursday more than 80 dogs were rescued from a puppy mill in Perquimans County. The puppy mill operator’s main venue to sell her puppies was an online site. DomesticSale.com is a craigslist clone. But unlike Craiglist,DomesticSale.com allows LIVE SALE of animals. In fact most of their site is devoted to online animal sales to fill this niche market. How you can help:Email DomesticSale.com and politely ask that they remove LIVE SALES of animals on their site. Click here to open the site feedback form to email DomesticSale.com
Copy and paste the below message (or write your own) into the feedback form:
Puppies that were posted on DomesticSales.com came from a puppy mill that was raided on Thursday 22nd in Hertford,North Carolina. Breeder Robin Hardesty voluntarily allowed workers from The Humane Society of the United States. (News coverage of the raid can be found here:http://www.wtkr.com/news/wtkr-nc-puppy-mill-nf-spca,0,5096930.story). The breeder posted on your site (listing here:http://www.domesticsale.com/Classifieds/a552627.html) In light of this information I ask that you please remove all LIVE ANIMAL sales from your website. Your site cannot guarantee the welfare of the animals sold on the site and there is no government agency that regulates online sale of animals. There are NO inspection requirements for people that only sell to the public. I ask that you make a proactive step to remove LIVE ANIMAL sales to preclude the possible sale of puppy mill puppies on your site in the future. Thank you for your consideration-
