The Forsyth County Department of Animal Control is accepting comments on the tethering (chaining) of dogs as a primary means of confinement. These comments can be made via email, by phone and by attending a public hearing Thursday February 18, 2010, at 6:00 PM at the Forsyth County Animal Shelter. More than 6 inches of snow wasn’t enough to stop a new Triad organization from building a better life for three mixed-breed dogs. On Jan. 30, eight volunteers from the Triad chapter of the Coalition to Unchain Dogs braved the snow to build a fence for Cici, Iverson and Snowflake so they will no longer have to be chained outside. Read more Paulette saw the inhumane treatment of dogs (and even some cats) kept constantly on chains in her community, and she launched a proactive plan over more than a decade to address the problem through city ordinances and public education. Read more A tethering amendment to the Orange County Animal Ordinance, which restricts the tethering of dogs to a maximum of three hours within a 24-hour period, becomes effective Thursday, Nov. 19.
