Starved Pit Bull Renews Tethering Debate in Guilford County

Yesterday we sent out an Action Alert about a chained pitbull that was starved to death in Greensboro.

Last month a pit bull in Greensboro was left on a chain and starved to death. Contact the District Attorney and request the harshest punishment for the owner. Tell him we do not tolerate animal abuse in Greensboro!

The Forsyth County Animal Control advisory board is considering making it illegal to chain or tie up dogs for a long period of time because of research suggesting that tethering could lead to aggressive behavior.

Public Hearing on Dog Chaining in Forsyth County

The Forsyth County Department of Animal Control is accepting comments on the tethering (chaining) of dogs as a primary means of confinement. These comments can be made via email, by phone and by attending a public hearing Thursday February 18, 2010, at 6:00 PM at the Forsyth County Animal Shelter. Group builds enclosures to keep dogs off chains

More than 6 inches of snow wasn’t enough to stop a new Triad organization from building a better life for three mixed-breed dogs.

On Jan. 30, eight volunteers from the Triad chapter of the Coalition to Unchain Dogs braved the snow to build a fence for Cici, Iverson and Snowflake so they will no longer have to be chained outside. Read more

Orange County new tethering rules begin this week

A tethering amendment to the Orange County Animal Ordinance, which restricts the tethering of dogs to a maximum of three hours within a 24-hour period, becomes effective Thursday, Nov. 19. During the first six months of the amendment’s enforcement, only warning notices will be issued for tethering violations. Read More
