| ASHEBORO — NASCAR driver Cory Joyce visited the Randolph County Animal Shelter Wednesday to help raise awareness of the N.C. Shelter Project.
The N.C. Shelter Project is a partnership between The Humane Society of the United States, Susie’s Law and North Carolina Voters for Animal Welfare to raise awareness of North Carolina community shelters through outreach and education. | The Humane Society of the United States is providing grant funding to Johnston and Randolph County Animal Shelters in North Carolina. The grants, totaling $6,000, will help the shelters to make new additions to their facilities, provide for basic repairs and implement new outreach programs to encourage pet adoption in the community. | Faced with a 100-strong crowd who condemned the demonizing of certain dog breeds, the Cumberland County Animal Control Board backed away Monday night from a move to limit adoptions of some breeds from the county shelter.
Instead, the board directed Dr. John Lauby, the animal control director, to look into ways the county can more carefully vet the people who adopt animals from the shelter to ensure they’ll be responsible owners. Read more from Fayobserver.com |

| HICKORY –Recent animal cruelty charges in New Jersey against a Newton woman have exposed the hidden practice of selling rescued dogs for profit. The animals, often gotten for free or at minimal cost, are taken to states in the northeast and sold as part of established underground businesses. Read more |
